Show Me Tell Me Questions

During your practical driving test you will be asked two vehicle safety questions.

Before you start driving you will be asked a tell me question. This is where you would explain how you would carry out a safety task.

During your drive you will be asked a show me question. This is where you would show how to carry out a safety task.

Getting one or both of these questions incorrect will normally result in a minor fault .However if you lose control or are not safe when carrying out the show me question then this may result in a serious fault.

Lets start by looking at the show me questions, one of which you will be asked to perform whilst on the move during your driving test.

1. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you wash and clean the rear windscreen or front windscreen?

Operate the relevant control as in the picture below.Push away for back windscreen wash or towards for front windscreen wash.

2.When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you’d switch on your dipped headlights?

Operate relevant switch as in picture below. Turn dial anticlockwise 1 notch to move lights from automatic to dipped headlights.

3. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you would demist either the front or rear windows?

Operate switch to heat rear windscreen as in picture below.Press left button for rear and right button for front.

4. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you’d operate the horn?

Press on side of steering wheel as below.

5. When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you’d open and close the side window?

Use toggle switch as in picture below.

The pictures above are for a 2017 ford fiesta but the symbols would be mostly the same in any car.
